It was really hard for them, Yang would think something was wrong with her and Blake kinda wanted to throw away all the baby stuff they already have bought to keep her from looking at it and feeling even more depressed.
They told Ruby and the others about it after Yin was born since they didn’t understood why Blake was the one having the baby instead of Yang, who was the one who always got excited about the idea of carrying their baby.
reasons why Yang should’ve gotten interactions with Ragna and Nine
Ragna:
Ragna and Yang are both older siblings, both are protective of
their younger siblings and both (though it’s mainly past tense for Ragna
he does still carry some of this habit into adulthood) tend to
prioritise others over, and sometimes at the expense of, themselves
in
his youth, Ragna had blond hair, like Yang does, and (thanks to his
Azure Grimoire) he has a red eye, while Yang’s eyes both turn red when
she’s angry
both have notable tempers and lowkey kinda hate themselves
they’re
both a lot more complex and deep than the surface suggests, and they
play up those images that others have of them, and very rarely open up
about themselves (this manifests with Yang more in her upbeat and warm attitude while Ragna presents himself as an aloof jerkass)
they both lost their right arms through the
actions of a maniac whose Japanese voice is provided by Yuuichi
Nakamura, and carry a lot of trauma as a result of that – while Yang is set prior to that event in BBTAG, it’s still thematically appropriate and a fun casting gag
both spent their childhoods in a home secluded in a foresty area
the name Celica appears around both of them – Ragna and his siblings were raised by Celica A Mercury while Yang’s weapon is named Ember Celica
notable
relationships with cat-people: Ragna (and his siblings) were taken to
Celica by Jubei, and Ragna was later trained by him. additionally, one
of the only real friends he really makes during the series is Taokaka,
and while he often clashes with Kokonoe, they both have beef with
Terumi. likewise, Yang’s partner and closest confidant is Blake, Yang
has been shown to understand Blake more than any other character in the
series has been shown to, and they both have beef with Adam
Nine:
both older siblings and both are protective of their younger sibling, both basically had to raise their younger sisters after their mothers died (both younger sisters are also pure and adorable) because their fathers neglected them
both Nine and Yang have long and wild hair and that could be played for something
the
first real glimpse of Nine’s character we got in the games is her
roundhouse kicking Ragna in the face and then preparing to throw
fireballs at him – martial combat is Yang’s thing and she supplements
that with incendiary rounds from her gauntlets (and in some cases,
actual fire)
once again,
the name Celica appears around both of them – Yang’s weapon obviously named Ember Celica
and Celica A Mercury is Nine’s younger sister
both had their lives thoroughly screwed over by a
maniac whose Japanese voice is provided by Yuuichi Nakamura (again Yang is set prior to the event with Adam but casting gag)
their families both have significant ties to the Magic of their respective settings
notable relationships with cat-people: Nine married Jubei and had Kokonoe with him, Yang gets a crap-ton of ship tease with Blake
like there’s just a lot of material to work with and it feels like a huge missed opportunity that it didn’t happen
When I explain cultural misappropriation to children, I use the example of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
It’s effective because especially for children, who don’t have enough historical context to understand much of the concept, you can still fully grasp the idea.
There was nothing wrong with Jack seeing the beauty and differences in Christmas town, it’s when he tried to take what is unique about Christmas town away from those it originally belonged to without understanding the full context of Christmas things is when everything went wrong.
When Jack tries to get the folk of Halloween town to make Christmas gifts for children, etc., children understand that the Halloween town folk do not have the full context for the objects they are making, and they are able to see that the direct repercussions and consequences are very harmful.
what i like about this is the implication that if jack had taken the time to understand christmas town, bringing christmas to halloween town would not have been harmful. that’s how it works, folks. cultural sharing is GOOD, it’s only misappropriation when it’s done in ignorance and disrespect.
So it’s not just accidentally removing things form their context; he has intentionally disregard the meaning of the rituals he purports to be recreating, making them more fun for the recreaters but not like what the rituals are supposed to be and without the related significance.
This is the best way to conceptualize the wrong way to share culture I have ever seen and I think I finally get where people are coming from when they talk about “cultural appropriation.”
